“For indeed my life is a perpetual question mark – my thirst for books, my observations of people, all tend to satisfy a great, overwhelming desire to know, to understand, to find an answer to a million questions. And gradually the answers are revealed, many things are explained, and above all, many things are given names and described, and my restlessness is subdued. Then I become and exclamatory person, clapping my hands to the immense surprises the world holds for me, and falling from one ecstasy into another. I have the habit of peeping and prying and listening and seeking – passionate curiosity and expectation. But I have also the habit of being surprised, the habit of being filled with wonder and satisfaction each time I stumble on some wondrous thing.”—
“The happiest people are those who think the most interesting thoughts. Those who decide to use leisure as a means of mental development, who love good music, good books, good pictures, good company, good conversation, are the happiest people in the world. And they are not only happy in themselves, they are the cause of happiness in others.”—William Lyon Phelps (via musingsinfemininity)
The most interesting thoughts. My most interesting thoughts not only make me happy, they were the cure for what I can only describe as an all-consuming, persistent unhappiness. My interesting thoughts — four books, countless songs, a revolution in publishing, and so on — have saved my life.
This also reminds me of another quote I adore that has touched me in much the same way, from Mark Twain:
"Life does not consist mainly, or even largely, of facts and happenings. It consists mainly of the storm of thoughts that is forever flowing through one’s head."

“That’s the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they’re not much to look at, or even if they’re sort of stupid, you fall in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. Girls. Jesus Christ. They can drive you crazy. They really can.”—J.D. Salinger (via thatkindofwoman)
“I cannot and do not live in the world of discretion, not as a writer, anyway. I would prefer to, I assure you — it would make life easier. But discretion is, unfortunately, not for novelists.”—Philip Roth, Deception (via millionsmillions)

(Click on image to listen in Spotify) Bombay Bicycle Club - Lights Out, Words Gone This is my FAVOURITE song of the last few months. Can’t stop listening to it. The guitar nuances are spectacular, great feel, great vocal. Love it. This whole record is incredible, BUY IT. The Cardigans - My Favourite Game Just heard this song the other day for the first time in years, totally obsessed with it for some reason. I find her voice very unique and there’s a cool energy to the track. Black Keys - Money Maker *Song is currently not on Spotify These guys are just bad ass. What else can you say, its gritty rock and roll. Hall and Oates - Private Eyes Leave me alone, this song is rad. I heard a guy do this at an open mic night a few weeks ago and have had it in my head ever since. Noel Gallagher - Everybody’s on the Run I’m a huge Oasis fan, and this High Flying Birds record is just sick. Love Noel’s voice, dying to meet this guy one day. He’s a legend in my books.
